Day 73 – Learning from volunteers

I wrote my thesis about volunteering with refugees. I am not sure if I mentioned that before on my blog, but I love volunteers and voluntary work. I am obsessed by the drive of people and the inspiring motivation that some of them radiate. I also am a bit frustrated sometimes with how unorganized they seem to be. It’s both a strength and a weakness. However, I am sure that if there wouldn’t be volunteers, this whole society would look a lot different. There is a lot to write about this topic. I might do a series of blogs on volunteers and the voluntary sector soon.

But for now just a vague teaser announcement.. I am going to start working for a company that creates a super useful online tool which let’s volunteers schedule their own time. Today I met two young women working in a museum in Amsterdam that switched to this system a couple months ago and are convinced of its usefulness. I still have to see and experience it, however I am really excited that I get to build a new network in the voluntary sector. I am going to meet a lot of new people that make a difference every day. I am going to explore a new area of marketing, sales, running your own business while being in touch with an inspiring group.

I am excited. Slowly warming up to this idea for the next 6 months of my life. I am getting the feeling I might be heading towards something that is right for me at this point in my life. As a walked through a street in my old, and probably soon to be new city, I saw the quote on the wall of today’s picture. ‘Total make over. Where do I start?’ I guess the next few weeks are going to teach me that.. More soon!
